GenomOncology strives to give our clients the best tools to help them make informed decisions. Our goal as partners to our clients is ensuring the highest quality of patient care, and providing the most accurate information available at the time. This is precisely why we recently introduced the ability to choose from multiple transcripts when reporting variants in the GO Pathology Workbench.

In order to better understand why this feature is so important, we need to understand what the concept of multiple transcripts is. During transcription, the exons of a gene are copied to RNA form, called a ‘transcript’. Despite…

We all know the classic immigrant story. Parents coming from another country to America to create a better life for their children. Knowing that the opportunities they were seeking were worth much more than anything that they were leaving behind. That’s why I’m here. My parents sacrificed everything to give me the chance of having a better life.

Immigrants know entrepreneurship and struggle better than anyone else. My Dad delivered pizzas for Domino’s when he first came to this country, even though he had a master’s degree. Knowing where he was and where he wanted to go made him into…

We all know the world is a very different place today than it was 25 years ago. The internet has fundamentally changed the way people go about their daily lives. From boarding passes to QR codes on your phone, physical maps to Google Maps, and from the movie theaters to Netflix, people have changed the way that they live. Interestingly enough, there seems to be little research being done on the negative effects of the internet. We’re all familiar with the added benefits of being connected, and having access to the world’s information at our fingertips, but what about the…

‘Well we missed the flight, rearranging, if it works we will let you know. Love you!’ -12:32

That’s a text I received from my Dad the day before my birthday. My parents had planned to come visit me to celebrate my 21st, but missed their flight leaving from Detroit. Two days and 13 hours of travelling later, they finally touched down in Barcelona.

I think you can never appreciate everything that your parents do for you. I’ve been blessed with two amazing people who care about and love me very much, and I consider myself one of the luckiest people…

I’m walking back from the metro on my way home from class and everyone is staring at me. At first I attribute it to random eye contact with strangers, but as I kept walking it was getting worse. Everyone I passed looked at me. I was wondering if it had something to do with what I was wearing, but looking around it didn’t seem like I was wearing anything out of the ordinary. Maybe it was because I was wearing headphones, yet I could see in the distance that others were too. I even looked in a window to check…

Recently a friend recommended I read Let the Great World Spin by Colum McCann. Full of short stories, it’s starting to become one of my favorite books. McCann has the ability to pull you in and give insight into not only what the characters are doing, but how they’re actually feeling in any given moment. As he was describing the grief felt by a mother whose son was killed in the Vietnam war, he mentioned this quote:

“The overexamined life is not worth living”

Interesting isn’t it? Aside from the nod to Socrates, McCann gives us some simple advice. We…

As I sat down twiddling my thumbs waiting for class to start, I looked around me and saw nothing but people engrossed in their phones. No one was talking to anyone near them, and the only sounds were slight chuckles on occasion followed quickly by silence. People were communicating with others halfway around the world, while at the same time trying to stifle the slightest bit of human emotion with the people right next to them.

Earlier this year, I visited my brother and sister-in-law in Seattle while on break from college. My brother is 12 years older than me…
